My my, what a week!

Wow! We officially survived this past weekend aka our busiest and most exciting weekend of (yes) the entire year!! We're not exaggerating one ounce, this past weekend was the much anticipated Brooklyn Pig Roast and 2nd annual Gowanus Harvest Festival.  Two super cool benefit events, back to back, not to mention last week was our esteemed creator, founder, owner, chef, etc. etc.  Miss Kelly Geary's birthday! It was one heck of a busy week but oh so fun!

Pig roast!! Although some of SD's lovely employees chose not to attend the pig roast to spare their dear eyes from, well, a roasting pig, (ok Jodie was the only one haha) others of us attended and enjoyed wonderful food, which of course we made, awesome music, and one succulent 200something lb oinker. whoa! We put the event on in co-op with Brooklyn Based and good friend Analeise, to help support The New Farmer Development Project. There were of course a few hitches, what fun would any social event be without complications, but in all we got through the evening happily and on as little electricity as possible!! :)

Not more than a few hours later, come Saturday morning, we re-opened the doors of The Yard to hundreds (around 1200 to be specific) of people from all over Brooklyn. So many people came out, so many families and children and strollers haha, it was like a stroller showroom at various points. We got to spend the day with some of our favorite local vendors including the lovely Anne from Saxelby Cheesemongers in the Essex market, Deborah and her ladies over at the Green Pirate juice truck, the hard workers from Red Jacket Orchards on hand with farm-fresh produce and of course their delicious juice, Bob McClure slanging pickles like a champ, and of course yours truly serving up home-style faves like mac-n-cheese, granola, grass-fed burgers, winter soups, and tiny adorable delicious barnyard animal-shaped grafton cheddar crackers to name a few. There was so much going on and so much to see, like Gotham City's Beekeepers who brought out one of their hives. The kids from trans alt were there with info about bike safety too. And more! There was even more, I'm not kidding, it was fun fun! We couldn't have asked for nicer weather or nicer company.

So thanks to so many of you for helping out with volunteering, working, and attending! We could never have made such a great Saturday without you all. Extra thanks to Jen and Jenny from MeanRed and also to Just Foods, one amazing organization whom we love love love, for giving us a reason to get all kinds of folks together and have a great day in the name of charity!

We will be posting pics from the fest soon, we promise, as well as pics we've been compiling during kitchen hours and early Saturday morning market visits. Stay tuned.... xo SD
